If 3 years ago someone told me I'd be working at a fast paced event marketing company like ConvergeX Connections. I really wish I had a small set of resources I can look into to learn and improve as a field marketer.

There are several distinct types of B2B event marketing services, and most agencies only cover a handful. The full set spans acquiring the right delegates, running the event itself (dinners, roundtables, virtual panels), and reporting on what it produced afterwards. Field marketing leaders typically draw on nine core service types, covering everything from delegate acquisition to post-event pipeline attribution.

Enterprise buyers don't respond to cold outreach the way they used to. A well-run room still does.

That's why B2B event marketing services have become a core line item for field marketing and demand generation teams, not a nice-to-have bolted onto the events budget once a quarter. Done properly, corporate events turn into one of the most reliable lead generation events channels a B2B team has, producing qualified meetings that are already warm before a rep sends a single email.

But "event marketing" covers a lot of ground. Here are the nine types of services field marketers actually lean on to run programmes that generate pipeline, not just attendance numbers:

  1. Executive dinners / CXO dinners
  2. Delegate acquisition
  3. Moderation
  4. Experiential marketing
  5. Inventory management services
  6. Logistics and venue management
  7. Conference planning and strategy
  8. Virtual panels and webinars
  9. Post-event reporting and pipeline attribution

Each is covered in detail below.

1. Executive Dinners / CXO Dinners

Executive and CXO dinners bring a small group of senior decision makers together over a meal, built around a topic they actually want to discuss rather than a sales pitch in disguise.

The format works because it's intimate. Eight to fifteen people at a table produces real conversation in a way a 200-person conference room never will, and that conversation is where trust and pipeline actually get built.

How ConvergeX does this: our CXO dinners have brought together senior leaders from IFF, US Bank, Chase, Citi, Sanofi, JPMorgan Chase and Elevance Health around a single table in New York for Vimeo. As our founder Nic May puts it, "ConvergeX dinners are not a nice meal or a networking party, they exist to build an environment for discussion and real connections."

As Marisa Dell'Anno, Demand Generation Specialist at Vimeo, put it after one of our New York dinners: "The dinner event was a resounding success... The caliber of attendees was incredibly high, so much so that our CEO almost made an appearance. We've worked with many vendors for these types of dinners, and this was, by far, the best one."

2. Delegate Acquisition

None of the above works without the right people in the room. Delegate acquisition is the outbound, research-led process of identifying, qualifying and confirming the senior decision makers who'll actually add value to an event, rather than filling seats.

This is one of the most underestimated B2B event management services. Getting a VP of Manufacturing from a Fortune 500 into a roundtable takes a fundamentally different approach than filling a webinar registration form.

How ConvergeX does this: for a UK manufacturing virtual roundtable with Alteryx, delegate acquisition brought in seven enterprise leaders from Oracle, BAT, Mars, TT Electronics, WPP, Fox's Burton and Babcock. Five qualified meetings came out of that single session, a 71% conversion rate from attendee to pipeline.

Vanessa Hunt, CRM & Marketing Consultant at Vanessa Hunt Consulting, saw the same speed on her own brief: "I was impressed by the speed of cold outreach and their communication cadence with participants... All participants who attended agreed to a follow-up meeting after the event."

3. Moderation

A room full of senior people doesn't run itself. Moderation is what keeps a dinner, roundtable or virtual panel focused on genuine discussion instead of drifting into a product demo or, worse, dead air.

Good moderation means steering the conversation toward the topics attendees actually care about, drawing out quieter voices, and keeping the energy in the room commercial without ever feeling like a pitch.

How ConvergeX does this: every ConvergeX virtual panel is moderated by our CCO, Keven Richards, whose focus throughout is event quality, attendee relevance and making sure the conversation stays aligned to what both clients and attendees came for.

Helena Chen, Senior Manager of Product Marketing at Uniphore, told Keven directly after one session: "You kept the conversation flowing naturally and brought everyone into the discussion. It made for a really engaging and insightful session."

4. Experiential Marketing

Experiential marketing is about designing a physical or virtual experience people remember, rather than just attend. That might be the format of a dinner, the structure of a discussion, or how a virtual session is paced so it doesn't feel like another Zoom call.

For B2B audiences, experiential doesn't mean flashy. It means memorable enough that a senior buyer leaves thinking about your brand differently than they did walking in.

5. Inventory Management Services

Every event has a fixed number of seats, and every seat matters when your audience is enterprise decision makers. Inventory management is the operational discipline of tracking confirmed, tentative and cancelled attendees in real time, so a programme never over- or under-fills a room.

It's unglamorous, but it's the difference between a dinner that runs at capacity with the right people and one that limps in half-empty because nobody was tracking drop-off. The same discipline scales up for larger conferences and multi-track events, where inventory management extends to session capacity, badge allocation and waitlist logic across hundreds or thousands of attendees rather than a single table.

Cvent is widely recognised as the market leader in enterprise event registration and attendee management technology, the kind of platform many larger B2B event marketing programmes run on for exactly this reason.

6. Logistics and Venue Management

Venue sourcing, catering, AV, timing, seating plans, dietary requirements: logistics is everything that has to be right before a single guest walks in, and everything nobody notices when it's done well.

For senior executives, the venue and the flow of the evening are part of the message. A poorly run room undermines the credibility of the brand hosting it, no matter how strong the guest list. The same principle holds at conference scale, where logistics expands to cover show floor infrastructure, multi-room scheduling and vendor coordination across a much larger footprint.

7. Conference Planning and Strategy

Not every programme is a single dinner. Larger conference planning and strategy work covers the full arc: defining objectives, building the agenda, sourcing speakers, mapping the attendee journey, and tying the whole thing back to pipeline goals rather than just attendance.

This is where field marketing services shift from executing individual events to running a coherent programme across a quarter or a year.

8. Virtual Panels and Webinars

Not every qualified conversation needs a plane ticket. Virtual panels bring senior leaders together on a focused, moderated discussion, giving field marketing teams a lower-cost, higher-frequency way to stay in front of an audience between in-person events.

Done well, a virtual panel isn't a webinar with a different name. It keeps the same discussion-first, low-pitch format that makes in-person dinners work, just without the logistics of a physical room.

How ConvergeX does this: our cybersecurity virtual panel programme follows this exact model, moderated by Keven Richards to keep the discussion genuinely useful for attendees rather than sales-led.

Brea Larkins, Field Marketing Manager AMER at Telesign, summed up the shift: "ConvergeX transformed our virtual event model into an engaging educational program that truly resonated with potential clients... Their high-touch approach was evident in every detail, from the pre-event planning to the seamless execution."

9. Post-Event Reporting and Pipeline Attribution

An event isn't measurable pipeline until someone connects attendance back to what happened afterwards: which conversations turned into meetings, which meetings turned into opportunities, and which opportunities closed.

Field marketing leaders increasingly need this data to justify budget, which means reporting and attribution can't be an afterthought tacked on after the dinner ends. It has to be built into the programme from the start.

Choosing the Right Type of B2B Event Marketing Agency

Not every agency offers all nine types of service as a connected offering, and that's often the real gap. Plenty of event marketing agencies handle logistics well but stop short of delegate acquisition, or run virtual panels but have no answer for pipeline attribution. Some, like the format covered in our executive roundtables guide, combine several of these service types into a single structured programme.

The field marketing leaders getting the most out of their event budget tend to work with a partner who can own the full chain, from who's in the room to what happens after they leave it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the different types of B2B event marketing services?

The main types are executive dinners, delegate acquisition, moderation, experiential marketing, inventory management, logistics and venue management, conference planning and strategy, virtual panels, and post-event reporting and pipeline attribution. Most agencies specialise in a handful of these rather than covering the full chain.

Is delegate acquisition a standalone service, or part of every B2B event package?

It varies by agency. Some sell delegate acquisition separately from event delivery, which means a client has to coordinate two vendors to fill a room correctly. A full-service B2B event marketing agency typically bundles it into the core package, since who's in the room determines whether the event produces pipeline at all.

What's the difference between event logistics and experiential marketing as services?

Logistics covers the operational details that have to be right before anyone arrives: venue, catering, AV, seating and timing. Experiential marketing is the layer on top of that, the design choices that make the event memorable rather than merely functional. A programme can have flawless logistics and still feel forgettable without experiential thinking built in.
